A lesser god

“And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” (Genesis 6:3 KJV)

I had the privilege today to watch an executive address from a major software company and the cool stuff they have ahead. Wow! Really neat technology that is already in the works and more is coming! As technology increases, we see that the real appetite for technology is based on efficiency. The time that it can save us. The work that it can save us. The dangers, hardships, and liabilities that we can avoid. While it may not eliminate all bad things on Earth, it makes the most of what can be made.

Would it surprise you to learn that the human race has already been at a higher level of “efficiency”? A time where mankind lived not to just be a hundred, but several hundred years old. A time when growing conditions were better. A time when storms, as we know them today, likely did not exist. And the real God, backed away from that intentionally. See the verse quoted above.

Do you see what happens? As we embrace technology for the legitimate good things that it can do, we tempt our hearts to settle for less. Not more. We tempt ourselves to be children of a lesser god. Not a greater one. Sure, use every tool that you have in your tool box including the screen that you’re reading this on now. Yet, do not settle for that. Know that we are to be about the father’s business for He is far greater, mightier, and everlasting! He alone has provided a way. Not just of a longer life, but life that is eternal and it’s on the other side of death because death is what sin requires. Not to worry, he has conquered death that death need not be eternal.

“Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.” (Ecclesiastes 1:10 KJV)
