Anchor

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” (Hebrews 6:19 KJV)

Anchor… Is there anything that can slow a ship down faster than an anchor? The whole point of getting on the ship is to get somewhere. Sure, we can use an anchor for a time. Maybe to let the night pass or a storm pass, but once the sun is up and the skies are blue, pull that anchor up and let’s be on our way. It’s one of those things that is up or down. We don’t sail on with any speed trying to drag the anchor along. So, why anchor of the soul? Why would our hope be tied to staying put rather than just waiting for fair weather and being on our way? What fulfillment are we holding fast for until it has been brought to completion?

Temptation is strongest when you feel like you fit in and you’re progressing along with those who are progressing. When you have been dulled to the word and are in tune with the things that need to be done today. Notably, the best way to fight temptation is not with grit teeth and a fierce will, but a steady diet of time listening to God in his word and his voice in our prayer times.

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:13 KJV)
