Efficiency

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:6 KJV)

Efficiency! It is the one word that drives so much in our world today. It is as though somewhere in the back of our minds the formula that speed equals distance divided by time creates a template for so much of what we do. The less time we spend doing something, the faster we can crank through it and thereby cover the most distance. Whether that involves getting an assistant or using a new technology, we love to see things that used to be so involved become so clean and simple. Yet in the verse above, the term “direct” literally means to be straight. God’s formula does not care so much about time as it does straightening the path. This effectively shortens the distance. We can scurry all over creation trying to accomplish great works that we think will ultimately bring great progress and efficiency, or we can wait on the Lord that He might direct us in a straight path.

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” (Psalms 27:14 KJV)
