Disaster recovery… It is such a shame to see such waste after a disaster that the human mind naturally considers what can be done to prevent such waste from occurring during the next disaster. Yet the odd thing is that we spend so many resources and so much time in preparing for a disaster that never happens. Or at least does not happen with the magnitude that we are planning for. Our planning can drive us at least as crazy as our lack of planning. What we are chasing after is control of the situation and extending manageability around what seems so unmanageable. Why are our plans so important to us? Why is accomplishing what we set out to accomplish so driving to us? Why do we have such trouble letting God accomplish the plans He set out to accomplish? Sure, its handy when we feel like our plans are merely a sub set of His. Is it as simple as allowing God to have a say or a vote or some kind of veto power during the consult where our plans are made? What if His plans must completely penetrate ours? What if our plans must be fully penetrated by His before they ultimately accomplish anything rather than merely having some kind of alignment with His? What if we are prevented from knowing what comes after us because nothing does until Christ comes in us? There can be no starting point until Christ makes a beginning. Is it 50 first dates or is there really a tomorrow? What do our plans really accomplish alone? The earlier in the process that you have a surrendered heart before Jesus, the more there is that is accomplished. What do we know of planning after seeing the master at work? It is rarely too late to humble yourself, but starting early avoids so much waste.
